Environmental Services: Adopt-a-Street

Make a visible impact on the local environment - help keep Arlington County a beautiful and clean place to live, work, and visit.

Before you can sign up you must agree to the following tasks:

  • Sweep the curb, gutter lines, and wheelchair accessibility ramps of the adopted street, on a quarterly basis
  • Remove litter along the adopted street, on a quarterly basis or as needed
  • Schedule a pick-up for sweeping debris to be collected by DES staff
  • Report any of the following hazardous conditions, as needed, along the adopted street:
    • Low hanging wires
    • Downed power lines
    • Street light outages
    • Broken or missing street signs
    • Pot holes or damaged streets and sidewalks
  • Report the following materials collected and time spent:
    • Amount of trash & recycling collected
    • Amount of sweeping debris collected
    • Number of hours spent cleaning your street

Individuals or groups can adopt a street or section of road for a commitment of a year. The adopter pledges to keep their street clean, performing tasks on a quarterly or 90 day basis. For questions or more information please call 703-228-6486.
